[Monday Mindset] same as it ever was…

Released in 1981, “Once in a Lifetime” by The Talking Heads offered an interesting refrain:

Same as it ever was

Same as is ever was

Same as it ever was… (repeat 5 or 6 more times)

Latest research reveals most people have pretty much the same thoughts each day. In fact, about 90 percent. As such, rather than creating something new, essentially living ‘today’ over and over and over.

Doing the same things.

Eating the same things.

Watching the same things

Reacting to the same things- in the same way.

Tomorrow comes each day, and we tend to take the same route to get there. Day after day. Year after year.

While some comfort lies in ‘same’, too much carves a rut.

The thing is- ruts don’t dig themselves.

You make choices. You take actions. Actions repeated tend to become habits.

In a rut?

To get from where you are to where you want to be, your first step is- do different. Consciously choose to climb out of whatever furrow, channel, or pothole you’ve excavated.

You created it. You can leave it behind.

Same as it ever was?

It’s your call.

Until next time,

-Tim

P.S. The “Once in a Lifetime” music video can be seen HERE (classic 80s MTV). Make sure you watch [at least] through the first refrain. Interesting indeed…

Until next time,
